He sets out from his garage and leaves for Hareta’s place.
He has his blue tooth microphone on and calls Hareta, “My dear, I am going to leave home and never go back. I should arrive at your place in a bit.”
Hareta says, “I will be there for you no matter what. Don’t ever go back to your wicked home. Just stay with me forever. But I am afraid…..”
Ackley says, “What are you afraid of?”
Hareta says, “Actually, there is something I have been wanting to tell you.”
Ackley says, “What is it?”
Hareta says, “I have loved you for way longer than you thought. It is just that I think I am not good enough for you.”
Ackley says, “What is this bullshit? How can you be not good enough for me? I won’t ever look back at my life or anything that has to do with my wife.”
So, Ackley drives his favorite Mercedes sports car and slowly opens the top. With his sunglasses, he looks way more chilled than he actually is, embracing the summer breezes.
Imagine a Harvard graduate in his early 30s with a home in Bel Air driving a Mercedes sports car. What a life! Within half an hour, he arrives at Hareta’s place. Hareta is already at the lobby, waiting for him.
Ackley looks at Hareta and slowly comes down from his car. For a total stranger looking on the outside, Ackley does look like those rich second generation going after a pretty Miss Big 4. It must have gotten a lot of people jealous.
Ackley holds Hareta from the back and says, “You are so genuine and supportive to me. Let’s drive around for a bit.”
Hareta says, “Sure!”
Hareta feels so secure now because Ackley finally decides to leave his home for good. So she starts to reveal her deeper feelings to him too!
Hareta says, “Ackley, actually, I have been wanting to tell you this. You know what, Emmy is just a young and pretty lucky Southern girl with childish fantasies. I wanted to make you leave her when she gets old and ages. It is a pleasant surprise that you make up your mind sooner than I thought. You know what, everything she owns is serendipity. She is just an inexperienced yet foolish girl who never has to fight for anything with anybody. Why can she own everything her parents pass down to her without any efforts? Why did I have to sleep with my landlord to pay for rent? Why do I have to work my ass off to feed my siblings? Why is Emmy so popular no matter where she goes? Why do I have to keep calculating others’ business for personal gains while Emmy can live such a carefree life? Why? It is all because of her pretty face. We live in such a superficial world. Everyone just looks at her outer appearance, but they fail to look at her ugly heart. I am even better looking than her anyways, right? She didn’t earn whatever she owns. She never has to work for anything but she is lucky enough to enjoy all she has possessed. And she possesses more than she needs. This world is too unfair. Emmy does not know a clue about your difficulties. She does not appreciate your talents, smartness, perseverance and hard work. I am different from her. I know how hard you have worked in order to get to where you are now. I don’t believe in luck. It is totally normal for you to leave her. She does not deserve your love.”
Ackley says, “I hate Emmy Ran. She has no sentience over me.”
Then Ackley starts out to leave Cheung Kwan O and slowly drives over to Sai Kung.
Ackley says, “Let’s take a drive to Clear Water Bay all the way to Sai Kung.”
Hareta is so delighted to hear this, “Thanks. I have been waiting for this day for a long time.”
It’s just that….
It’s just that Ackley begins to bleed through his nose.
Hareta is still indulging in her romantic imagination and she does not notice anything unsual about Ackley.
Ackley wipes his nose with his hand, thinking that he must have a runny nose. He looks surprised to see the blood on his hands.
Hareta sees the blood all over Ackley too!
Hareta says, “Your nose is bleeding.”
Ackley says, “I am fine. It is just a bit of nose blood. No big deal.”
