But it’s just that…..

Ackley’s nose keeps bleeding. His hands are all covered with crimson red blood. And it does not stop bleeding.

Then, his eyes begin bleeding too.

Hareta says, “Your eyes are bleeding too!”

Ackley says, “I think I am over.”

Hareta says, “No, you are a good man. Nice guys finish last. You will live a hundred year old life.”

Ackley says, “If I leave this world sooner, I would rather die beside you. Even though we were not born the same day, but I want to die with you.”

Hareta starts crying and uses her tissue paper to wipe off Ackley’s blood. She says, “It’s okay. Your eyes don’t bleed that much.”

But, before she finishes her words, his ears start bleeding too.

Ackley says, “See, we are still together. We are invincible. Nothing can change our undying love for each other.”

Hareta wipes off his bleeding nose but more blood starts running from his eyes and ears.

Ackley has difficulties in speech now. Oh no, he is puking blood.

Ackley says, “Er……Er……(cough cough) I would want to be in love with you again next life!”

Hareta says, “Ackley, I love you. I want to be with you through thick and thin. I want our love story to continue till death do us apart.”

At this time, Ackley starts puking out white foams.

Ackley continues, “You are indeed my Wonder Woman.”

What a pair of Romeo and Juliet. Why is their love story so romantically tragic?

Hareta is still confused about this unhappy ending and asks, “Why? Why does it turn out this way? I work hard every day and wake up earlier than roosters. I can’t speak a sentence in English properly as a new immigrant but I am surrounded by love and support from my coworkers and bosses. I work my way up in Coleman Sacks like no one else. My IB Chinese teacher wrote me a perfect recommendation letter to colleges even though she does not speak a word in English. My peers give me perfect reviews. I survive through this cannibalizing pyramid of the investment banking business world. I can conquer anything. I have worked so hard to build up my reputations. But why can’t I even save my beloved ones? Why? Is this world fair ever? Why can’t I be happy and content like Emmy who is constantly surrounded with love and attention? Why? I will fight back at all costs!”

Ackley says, “Yes, even though the college recommendation I sent to Harvard was a fake written by myself, cheating is nothing! I am loved and cared by my siblings and parents. Why do I end up like this? This does not make any sense. My track records at Marrow is flying colors. I am loyal to my alma mater, my hometown, my friends and my high school. Why do I ever have to go through these? What’s wrong with universal love anyways? I do exactly what Jesus said. I know my life has been a mistake but next life, I swear to God I will be born in a rich second generation family and live freely without any constraints. Then I will have a pretty wife who loves me and a perfect life envied by the whole world. I have done so many good things this life, working like an ant. God will definitely have his favor upon me and grant me a wonderful life next time.”

Now, Ackley’s eyes stop bleeding but filled with blood red vessels all around the eyeballs. He starts to choke and white foams start coming out from his mouth. His skin is covered with rashes and burst out with blood and pus. He starts to faint.

As he is still kind of conscious, he uses his last breathe to talk to Hareta, “I am seeing a lot of you in front of me now. It is dazzling. Do you see the beach ahead of us? Let’s drive down into it and end our lives honorably.”

Ackley suddenly turns around at this moment and starts to drive in opposite direction towards the beach.

In retrospect...

A lot of people say that college, especially the Ivy League schools, is like a black box. It does amazing things to your brain and transforms you in a way that could not quite be comprehended. I recen
