hong kong is ugly

i grew up in wanchai. so i lived next to my school. just a very typical childhood, nothing special.
i used to want to live in jardine's lookout or tai tam when i was growing up. because the rich kids in st francis usually reside there. or tai hang, or happy valley.
i don't like the city landscape of hk. don't you think hk is very ugly?
i mean, the more places i have been to, the more i realize hk is ugly. like hk is so full of ugly buildings. some buildings are orange, green, purple and pink. i was like, wtf, can't you just stick to white and minimalistic design like 建外 soho? i think hk people have bad tastes and bad 審美標準.
i used to think that modern city landscape should have a lot of high rise, so i grew up thinking that all cities must have a lot of high rise. until i went to taiwan. i realized taipei didn't have any skyscrappers at all. but i really like taipei. i think my world view changed after i studied abroad. i started to think that hk is very ugly.
if you take a stroll at 大角嘴, that area is hell of a place, the epitome of ugliness. actually even the area where i grew up, wanchai, is not that pretty. when i was growing up, i wanted to live in 陽明山莊 or 雅柏苑 because they look like 豪宅. the buildings in tai tam look modern and timeless. i wanted to live in tai tam because it is a relatively safe and classy area, unlike the soho brothel area in central. but also, i realized i had my limits too. i used to think that my uncle must be some sort of a genius to be able to afford 康樂園. after i worked at investment bank, i almost gave up the idea of living in 豪宅 cos i realized earning money is so tough and difficult. then i lowered my standards, maybe happy valley is good enough if i can't afford jardine's lookout. actually now that i am in tai po, i think i don't want to go back to the city anymore.
i think hk has a lot of work to be done, to be on par with the rest of the world. we can't be complacent and think that we are whatever world city we proclaim to be if we have such an ugly landscape.
