Foreword

I majored in engineering and I have been working in finance and marketing. A lot of my friends could not foresee that I can write a fiction. Sometimes, I find it hard to believe that I could actually finish an 80,000 word novel. Yes, I have written numerous blogs and have translated a lot of work for legal magazines. Having been engaged in producing written work of all sorts, I have always wanted to write a book but I somehow lack the courage to write a fiction that I like. I don’t really like romantic love stories because they are too surreal. Rather than romance, I am much more of a fan in criminology, detective stories, science fiction and the conflicting stories between cops and gangs, which explore the dark side of human nature. Well, for obvious reasons, of course. There is a severe lack of angels around me. My life path has been filled with banana peels.

I had a nightmare one day and I realize how fortunate I have been to wake up in reality. Born in an era of war and peace, I owe to spread a positive message to everyone in Hong Kong and in the world about the bliss of returning to reality. Of course, we live in a diverse and complicated world where different people see things differently. Similarly, some people choose to escape from reality and live in constant illusions and then wake up to find that the world is a never awaken nightmare. This is the irony and sarcasm in life. We all walk our own paths; some choose a more open road. Apart from God’s plan, our so-called destiny is largely our own choice. We often hear that life is a constant battle between destiny and self will and many say that the good always wins the evil. This is absolutely correct. No doubt, we live in a beautiful world. Do you think anyone of us want to be the bad guys? Or should I phrase it this way: would anyone admit that they are the evil one? Those who commit wrong would always think that they are justified. Otherwise, they wouldn’t do wrong in the first place. Unless they are idiots or think that everyone else on this planet is a fool. Therefore, the statement “good always wins evil” holds. But the problem is evil people always think that God’s favor would always be on their side, even if they have committed serious offences like murder, poisoning, adultery, stealing, thefts and deception. So righteous, you are heaven sent.

As a matter of fact, the topic of evil and good is a universal classic. Where there are human beings, there would be war and conflicts. Where there is right and wrong, there would be crime and punishments. If I really am to elaborate on this topic, I could write a thesis on it. Therefore, please forgive me for just touching on some of the brief points on ethics. In Hong Kong where the literacy rate is almost 100%, everyone has the right to receive free education. Everyone has unlimited free access to public library resources. Illiteracy is not an excuse to say that you are ignorant of famous stories like the Genesis, China’s Journey to the West and Dream of the Red Chamber, etc. If you are willing to learn, the world is actually not so much of a maze. You should have known that it is because Adam could not tell apart good and evil which tempted him to eat the forbidden fruits. He tried to evade his blame by confessing to God that it was Eve who seduced him. He claimed that women are evil. We all know what happened to Adam. He lost his paradise and was cast out of the Garden of Eden. Even so, many of us still follow and repeat Adam’s mistakes like fate pushes these people to keep committing adultery like a manwhore. Some people are willing to forgo a whole forest for one tree; but there are also idiots courageous enough to walk and adventure through the entire forest just to find a tree he finds ideal. Sometimes, life is like driving. How you navigate through life has been written in the Bible; but many insist that it is better for them to find their destinations by random walks or through trials and errors.

Everyone wants to be successful. But is it true that those who are obedient enough to remain ethical will never get ahead? If you are desperate enough to betray yourself for the sake of money or treat life like a battlefield where you have to harm others to elevate yourself, strangest things can happen. The end does not justify the means. By what standards can you justify a murder? If you think that a girl is evil or you call her a bitch behind her back, why do you want to make her your girlfriend? Are you treating love like a game? Well, if from the very beginning your intention has been so illful, you would obviously feel somewhat guilty. You would be afraid of retaliation. You scare that your girlfriend will sue you for sexual harrassments or rapes, so you have to install a camera to videotape her without her authorization. What I want to say is that, if you are genuinely honest and respecful towards women, the earth should not be too much of a dangerous place. Therefore, no matter how romantic and affectionate you seem, you are indeed playing a game with costs you cannot afford when you are being deceptive. I can only wish you good luck in playing the “Monopoly”. If only life is a board game…

Grown up in an absolute capitalist city like Hong Kong, I sometimes envy the life of the commoners in communist countries because they are at least sane and logical. In a financial world and commercial world city as affluent as Hong Kong, many people actually look down on the poor more than the sluts. They think that as long as you are well-off, nobody cares about the ways you earn your wealth. This raises a question: is serendipity a blessing or a curse? If one day God really gives you the fame, the power, the status and the money you have longed for, can you handle it? If you don’t work for what you get, you may very likely get over-exhiliated and lose control like a headless chicken.

I hope that, through this horror science fiction with a twisted love story, I can make people come to realization about what is really happening in the world. Is love really so desirable when it is disguised like a candy-coated poison? When you think you can fool the world in putting on a mask of kindness and justice, don’t forget that the avengers will never let you see through their true propaganda either. Because wars, attacks, revenges and true battles will only happen behind your back. Mazel tov.
