Who ever has the time to think about the truth behind this Romeo and Juliet marriage of Hong Kong? Apart from the stunning proposal photos, there are also calligraphy and famous paintings on display. It is really more of a Primavera story rather than a Yue Minjun fairy tale?
The writing is on the wall. You cannot miss the gigantic “Romeo must die” movie poster hung next to the photos. Their love story is obviously not as simple as it looks. But Hareta is illiterate. All she can read is the Little Prince.
Unfortunately, illiterarcy is a misfortune and should not be taken as a priviledge. Hamlet is the story of a Danish prince whose uncle murdered his own brother to marry the queen and claimed the throne. As a revenge, Hamlet faked mental sickness to throw his uncle off-guard and eventually killed his entire family as a revenge. Is Emmy really a lovey-dovey romantic?
Yes, on the surface this couple does look like a classic romance with undying love for each other. At least, that’s what Hareta thinks. In Hareta’s eyes, this West Side Story show, if anything, is only filled with happiness, blesses, and unconditional passion for each other with no despicabilities, no flaws, no regrets, no bullying, no unwillingness, no mind games, no dark secrets, no betrayal, no adultery. Because this is Emmy’s love story. She is so perfect, and so is her Harvard love story.
