A few days have passed. Emmy sends Hareta a message.
Emmy says, “I am not feeling so well. Ackley is working. Can you take me to the hospital?”
Hareta says, “Why? What’s wrong? Is it that bad?”
Emmy gives her a call, “Bestie, friends in need are friends indeed. I have got no one to take care of me when I get sick. You know I have got all these rashes on my body. It hurts so much. I have got some blisters on my mouth too. I can’t eat properly. I also have really bad cramps this month. I never had cramps before. I almost wanted to puke. There is something wrong. Ackley is never around when I need him. What a jerk. I wonder why I married such an obnoxious douchebag.”
Hareta says, “He works hard so he can give you a good life.”
Emmy says, “He is going to have some serious issues dealing his banking clients like this every day.”
Hareta says, “Maximize your earnings in your youth. No one would want to hire you when you get old. Ackley is just securing his future with hard work.”
Emmy says, “Right, pure truth of life! Anyways, come over. Can you come with me to the clinic?”
Hareta says, “Okay. Clinics are usually closed on weekends. Is your doctor on duty today?”
Emmy says, “I think I should go to a hospital. Come to my place now and we will go to the Peak Hospital.”
Hareta says, “Okay. See you soon.”
Hareta shows a mysterious smile on her face. She thinks to herself, “Emmy Ran, now karma would serve you right. You will be stuck in my scheme, slowly infected to death. I will take your husband, enjoy his salary, and call Edison my son. May heaven come!”
Hareta cannot help smiling on her way to Chin’s house. She is imagining the agonizing face of Emmy. She almost misses her stop.
As Hareta arrives, she quickly expresses her worries for Emmy. Hareta says, “Are you okay? I am sorry to hear that you are sick. What happened? Did you eat anything wrong? Or is it some kind of allergy?”
Emmy says, “Not sure. It is quite unbearable. I never had cramps and I rarely get blisters. You know what is bothering me? I can’t wear contact lenses anymore. My eyes hurt when I put them on. I have to wear my glasses now. Do I look okay? Thank god my husband is working so he wouldn’t see my face without makeup.”
Hareta says, “You look as pretty as usual. Let’s visit the hospital first.”
Emmy says, “Bestie, you are such a good friend. I know you are genuinely nice to me. You are such a kind-hearted person. I will visit the infamous Dinghui Temple when I recover.” Emmy starts to cry and takes out a bag of tissue paper that reads Es Mus Sein.
Hareta says, “Aren’t you a Christian? Why would you visit Buddhist temple?”
Emmy says, “I don’t believe in Jesus. Anyways, I don’t have time now to explain myself.”
