Some say that the hell and heaven co-exist on earth once peacefully, each occupying a separate parallel universe not to be crossed. This is like Bosch’s famous work of The Garden of Earthly Delights. On this piece of land on earth, there are devils suffering from all sorts of tortures and pains struggling to leave hell and angels living on an eternal paradise. Every time Emmy looks at Ackley, she is like Alice in a Wonderland constantly reminded of those demons sinking down the sea of distress and agony.

Hell is like quicksand. The more you struggle, the deeper you sink. Apparently, hell is stratified with 18 layers. The most bottom part contains all sorts of spirits suffering from all kinds of pains only to carry on with a thin slice of hope. Because of this hope, they are willing to stay in eternal hardship. These demons are liars, rapists, lazy asses, murders, thieves, robbers, and starving ghouls. This may also explain why, in Hong Kong this land of plenty, there are still so many idiots thinking they may starve to death if they don’t kill others. They live their lives like a musical chair game on a multi-layered imagined social pyramid. They commit serious crimes only to find themselves unable to redeem their deeds.

Like Ackley and Hareta, these ghouls keep reaching to the top of the society but in vain. They eventually have sold their bodies and minds, reincarnating into ducks and chickens, horses and cows in repeatedly scary deaths one after the other. They are hungry for success, yet unable to escape from their destined fates.

Actually, what do these people in hell live for? Victory.

On earth and in the Garden of Eden and on this land of paradise, there are all sorts of creatures, plants and animals living together in harmony. Is fate that fun to play? People in hell only think that through constant battles and direct fighting will they be able to live on and survive. This also explains why the Romans like to watch deadly scenes of these criminals being gulped alive at the Colosseum. Men in hell treat life as a hunger game reality show. They can only find their meaning of life and happiness from triumphs.

But so what if you win the world and lose your life? To these men in hell, victory is all that matters. So they keep fighting their imaginary enemies. They vow to steal others’ jobs, boyfriends, girlfriends, friends and husbands through adultery, frauds, treachery and other dirty tricks. But these serendipities in life only give them ephemeral bliss.

How silly! Even if you have successfully stolen what others could have wanted to get rid of the most, is it still precious? A greedy dog loses his own bite after seeing his own reflection on the river bank. Greed only breeds mean deeds. Are you sure those properties you have desired so much from others are not just a mirage?

Maybe someone is thanking you for stealing their unwanted trashy belongings.

Someone’s meat can be another’s poison. If only life is like a flower...
