Kevin and I actually sat next to me in the classroom for some time and that was how we became close friends. When I said close, I meant nothing romantically. Apart from the usual chats on ICQ, we talked on the phone almost every day for more than 2 semesters. I enjoyed talking to him because that was a long awaited study break from the usual electromagnetic wavelength calculations. Meteor rain was a real big topic among the internet users at the time. We got a lot of spam about whatever meteor rain that was supposed to happen once every hundreds of years. Kevin said he wanted to take me to one of those meteor rain events. Of course I didn't go with him because I didn't think Hong Kong had a night sky clear enough to witness metaphysical phenomena. It sounded like a phishing invitation anyways, like a painless penis enlargement pill or a prince from Nigeria saying that he would like to take me out on a date. I past that age of naivety already, after hearing Angela Ng's story about her boyfriend from Bangladesh buying her a Chanel bag.

Kevin told me he was a certified psychic. He said he practiced shamanism at home and wanted to try his superpower on me. He actually repeated it at a frequency which I had to take him seriously, or at least act like it. For numerous nights of phone conversation after hours of schooling and tutorial lessons, he said that he could read my mind. No, but he was cheesy. He asked me to close my eyes, which I pretended to while having my eyes wide open. Then he told me to imagine that he was right next to me somewhere he could oversee my home and thoughts. I didn't know how to respond other than expressing my amazement over his teleporting abilities. So I told him I was a specialist of telekinesis, which meant that I could mind control my enemies into making them do things the way I wanted it to be.

Kevin actually invited me to his home a few times. He was the top 5% in terms of networth in SPCC. Guess what, he lived in Estoril Court. What a surprise. He was good friend with Ronald Siu, also a resident in Estoril Court, and I had to admit that I was a little bit attracted to Ronald back then. But I never got to know him well enough, since he was not a student from my class. Last time I saw him, he was already the fiance of a hot girl and a successful banker at Convoy IBD division. Anyways, Kevin's home was huge, around 3500 square feet. His living and dining room alone were bigger than my entire apartment. It looked spacious, even with Victorian style furniture and a 4-seat sofa with a 12 person dining table. His room was big enough to place a wardrobe, a table with computer and a walking space big enough for yoga practice. We played video games on his TV with Ronald and a few of his friends, whose names I had since forgotten. For a split second, I thought that his life was pretty awesome. An apartment in Estoril Court was classy enough to stand for a good life.

But he was forever friendzoned. He never asked me out for a relationship and I was not saying that he was interested in me but I knew it clearly that I liked him as a friend, and friend only. Why? Figure-wise, he was big and tall, unlike the rest of the class in SPCC. He was bulkier than me, which should be a point worthy enough for my attraction. Being big was fine. But he was also a bit feminine, giving off some sissy vibes. I was not physically attracted to him, even though he had a doctor father and lived in one of the most expensive apartments in Central district.

Kevin called himself "the king of the odd", aka 畸哥之王 holding a sign of the title on Yes! magazine once. I liked Kevin nevertheless because he was funny and a bit eerie. I was pretty sure that Kevin was not gay. At least, not that I was aware of. Kevin made it clear to me about his sexual orientation that he met a few friends from St Paul's Convent over ICQ and he asked me to go with him when he chose presents for the girls. He even asked me to be there on their first dates, which I did go, of course.

In retrospect...

A lot of people say that college, especially the Ivy League schools, is like a black box. It does amazing things to your brain and transforms you in a way that could not quite be comprehended. I recen
