But as always, Sharon never seemed satisfied with her circumstances. She was never content and was always ready to ask for more. Be it her grades, her school, her home, her parents, her friends, she always felt a sense of lack. That was why I didn't really like her personalities. She always complained about stuff that I considered nonsense and she was almost on the edge of killing herself over something silly. I would say it was her horoscope. I heard that Pisces were highly emotional and willing to sacrifice. Sometimes talking to her drained a lot of energy from me so I always reminded myself to keep a distance from her moody disposition as a way to protect myself and deflect her negative energies.

She said she didn't like the guys she met at the ball. She emphasized to me again and again that she wanted someone rich, like a titan, a tycoon, a rich second generation, or at least someone from the Peak or anywhere above May Road. If she was that specific, I told her I knew someone wealthy over the internet and he was technically a friend and neighbor of my classmate, Alex Ng, who had become one of the most reputable ophthalmologists in town. Alex also was the husband of Jacqueline Sitt who tried to prick me with a needle. Hey, I could be a prick too. Stupid elementary school level games, I grew tired of that since the age of 7. So was accusing your rivals of having cooties.

So I passed Sharon his contacts. I told her he lived on May Road.

That guy was Gary, or Curry as he liked to call himself. He went to Wah Yan Kowloon and studied abroad in a boarding school near London. I liked him a lot because he was very mature, despite his age. He was a year younger than me.

Unsurprisingly, Sharon asked me to go to Wah Yan Kowloon's ball with her shortly after the Green and White Ball. Maybe Sharon adopted the philosophy of YOLO, she really would go out of her way just to meet someone rich. Cinderella could be freaky as hell. Her motto was "to see and be seen". She believed that she had to put herself out there and make connections with the most high net worth bachelors so that her chance of getting married with a tycoon could be maximized.

I didn't recall much from that WYK ball anymore but all I could say was that Gary arranged a few friends of his to escort us on campus so we got to sit down outside the hall with a few guys. One of them was Ben Wu. He was American citizen, and went to Brown University. I heard his dad went to Princeton. He became a doctor with a degree under the Duke-NUS medical school program. I found him kind of attractive but not someone I would consider going out with. He liked to tell me about the ladder theory of dating that girls liked to group certain guys as potential boyfriends or otherwise those who were forever friend zoned.

One of Gary's friends was aggressively going after Sharon following the ball. His name was Zenon Yeung, who became one of the best surgeons specialized in otolaryngology. He was also a wealthy bachelor. He lived in a house at Clear Water Bay, not those affordable village houses, but a detached house with backyard and garden next to the shore. To be honest, I thought Zenon was a good catch. Driven, good looking, friendly, wealthy, and a doctor too! What else could you ask for?

But no, Sharon said she wanted a tycoon. A tycoon who could get her on the front page of Vanity Fair, Vogue, Hong Kong Tatler, or the C1 headlines of Apple Daily. A surgeon with a house at Clear Water Bay would not do so. So she turned down Zenon and never asked me to attend any balls with her anymore. She quitted St Francis before the HKCEE, to avoid the workload, I supposed? Then she applied to a list of boarding schools on the East Coast of the United States. She ended up at Loomis Chaffey. I heard that her parents sold or refinanced her apartment at Baguio Villa to sponsor her studies, just to meet the guys from SPCC. And as a matter of fact, she did make friends with the most wealthy alumni from SPCC, those who left for HKIS or boarding schools before I got in.
