do you know what Beijing people hate the most?
stinginess.
cheap behavior.
what is considered cheap in beijing?
stinginess when you order food.
in beijing, my mother always ordered a lot of food if she had friends coming over from beijing.
if you want to take people out for dinner, and if you want to save money, you may as well not take them to dinner cos it is actually doing you an anti flavor. if you originally try to take people out for dinner to win a deal, or win some heart, or show off, or get business and win friendship or something, hk people like to also calculate cost price return. and they start calculating.
and in the end, they think they have gained something from that dinner.
thats a big no no. in beijing, if you give like a present, or take people out to a dinner, if you make that decision, you better not try to save money. if you have money concerns, you may as well just stay home and not eat out.
cos if you are stingy people will think that your intention is not pure and your action will have some backlashing consequences.
therefore, when i give my friends presents, especially like kelly and sammy, i usually take them to michelin star restaurants like blue fin at rockefeller center, and i bought kelly an authentic miu miu bag for her birthday. i myself could not even afford such an expensive bag. but it is in beijing culture that, if you give presents or take people out for dinner, you should treat them better than yourself, and not save money. if you want to save money, might as well just not give it out and not spend any money at all, that way you won't lose a friend.
張晨 was dissing at the jewish guys in his dorm when we worked in beijing 20 years ago.
he said the jews are so stingy, they lived together in a suite, but the jews like yelled and punished him for eating their cereals. and zhang chen was like, dude, do i have to count how many pieces of cereal i ate to pay them back?
張晨 is a typical guy from beijing. we dissed at the same things.
therefore, i got along well with kelly, cos she is from 天津.
people in beijing hate people who are calculating, 摳門兒, and manipulative.
i hate 田雞 for the same reasons. 田雞 is a typical guy from 潮州.
have you watched 給阿嬤的情書?
i hate the way 潮州話 sounds like, same as 上海話.
我只喜歡講普通話,京片子或者台灣口音都可以。
but i dislike all other dialects...i am from beijing, most of my friends are from the north. i have no friends from guangdong, chaozhou, or shanghai. cos i don't get along with them.
