I had a Korean 선배. His name is Joseph (Lee Jie).

He was a grad student studying master at Columbia. He went to hamilton college for undergrad.

He is very funny because he always says some funny things that don't make any sense.

I think Koreans are very funny.

Like they are so serious when they say trash. Like they mean it.

Okay, so this 선배 right, he says his name is Lee Jie so he says he is a very observant and understanding person. He says he understands me very well cos he pays attention to me and stuff right.

Okay, so what does he understand of me?

He says I eat when I am outside, like not in a restaurant.

Okay, so what's the big deal? I don't understand.

He says its a big no no in Korea. I was like, jesus christ, not again, what's up with this Korean culture thing again? First, they said I don't eat like a bird. Then they said I eat when I am walking in the street.

I told him, a lot of people in HK are MK 妹 and they like to 篤魚蛋 in the street. And they are usually very well off, like my friend Tracy Lau from SPCC.

And then he like gave me a lot of theories, like rich people don't get seen eating while walking in the street.

Jesus Christ, I feel like Korean people must be very tired from all this 面子 thing.

He has been studying this master degree in eastern asian studies for like 5 years and he still didn't graduate. He can master Japanese, Korean, English and Chinese cos he was in my Chinese class with me, thats how we became friends. He always says Japanese people mistake him for Japanese cos his Japanese is so good and stuff.

He is working in the government now. He had a daughter called naomi. Ever since he started his job in the government, he told me he had to cut off all web communications with his friends. So i never talked to him again after graduation. He was totally off the radar.

I told him I kind of like Gordon Park. I asked Gordon to come out when I was meeting up with Joseph.

Joseph has a car. He likes to drive me around the city. I feel very happy to be driving around the city cos car is a luxury in new york city. He drove me to Korean churches, to k town and stuff. I told him I watched this korean drama called Harvard Love Story. I asked him do I look like a very poor student who needs to work to pay for tuition to attend Columbia. I said I should be looking for a job in k town like 김태희 and be like super diligent and submissive and 위대하다.

He laughed at me. He drove me to k town. I said I wanted to look for a part time cash job in k town. He took me to those k town restaurants. I couldn't speak Korean. So he was the translator for me. I said I wanted to work at k town.

Nobody took me seriously. Nobody gave a shit about what I said. So mission failed.

I told Joseph that I am a very underprivileged student living on financial aid at Columbia.

He started to say some funnny things. Like I should stop eating sandwiches in the subway.

I said how is that gonna save me from living on financial aid? That does not make any sense. I don't see the linkage.

He is also a tarot card reader. He like asked me to have a tarot card reading with me. And he said I should not work at Morgan Stanley cos he said he saw blood on my hands.

He is very funny. But he was very serious when he said that. Like I committed a crime at Morgan Stanley or something. I listened to him eventually anyways but he was very funny.

I think Koreans are very interesting.

Like they are not nerdy. They are very different from HK people.
